The Bay Chronicle

The Bay Chronicle is Kerikeri’s community newspaper. It is delivered free to households in the wider Bay of Islands area, Doubtless Bay and the Karikari Peninsula – including Kerikeri, Paihia, Russell, Opua and Mangonui.
Edited by Keri Molloy, the paper has with an audited circulation of 9,795. We strive to be accurate, fair and independent.
Recipient of several national community newspaper awards, the newspaper promotes local initiatives, celebrates achievement and informs, offering readers a platform for expression, through our letters page.
The paper started out in 1974 as the Kerikeri Chronicle, under John and Ann Dalton, who sold it nine years later.
Under INL and Independent Community Newspapers ownership, editors were Iona McNaughton, Clare Logan and Ron Hawker, before Keri took the helm in 1988.
In the late 1980s the former Bay Bugle and the Kerikeri Chronicle merged to form The Bay Chronicle, published fortnightly. In 2002 a decision to publish weekly was welcomed by our readers and advertisers.
The Bay Chronicle – now delivered every Thursday – is part of Fairfax’s Suburban Newspapers stable of community newspapers, led by regional manager Lynne Popham.
